The city of San Jose contains a number of notable art galleries, including the impressive San Jose Museum of Art, which contains a large and varied collection of paintings and sculptures.

Contemporary art is featured at the ART-TECH Silicon Valley Institute of Art and Technology in downtown San Jose, as well as at the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art. This popular city art gallery has a permanent collection of contemporary art, post-1980 pieces and catchy revolving exhibitions. You will also find an education center, bookstore and café that are all located in the restored historic wing of the San Jose Museum of Art. There are a couple of guided tours offered every day, as well as tours on the second Saturday of every month for the deaf and those with impaired hearing.

The de Saisset Art Gallery and Museum is located at the university in the town of Santa Clara, just outside of San Jose. Santa Clara University itself has much history and was the state's first college, founded by Jesuits in the mid-1800s. The Museum displays permanent collections of pieces from the days of the Gold Rush, themed Californian art and contemporary prints from the Bay Area as well as numerous mission artifacts.
