Some well-know carriers serving San Jose include American Airlines, Southwest, United, Alaska, Continental, Delta, Hawaiian and Northwest Airlines. Highway 87 connects the airport with downtown - a 3-mile / 5- km journey - while shuttle buses and taxis run to and from the airport throughout the day. San Jose's airport has offices representing all of the popular international car rental chains and is located at an easy driving distance from downtown San Jose and the city's major hotels. The city of San Jose is well fed by interstate, federal and state highways, with several expressways within Santa Clara County. Interstate highways I-280, I-680 and I-880 converge here, while highways CA-85, CA-87, CA-17, CA-237 and 101 also provide easy travel to the city and beyond.

Greyhound buses travel to San Jose from all directions regularly throughout the day, including from San Francisco and Los Angeles. Additionally, BART government operated buses run from San Francisco to Fremont, from where other buses connect to San Jose. VTA also runs services to San Jose and the surrounding communities, while Highway 17 Express bus line provides travel between San Jose and Santa Cruz.

Amtrak provides a popular train service to San Jose from Sacramento aboard the San Jose Capitol Corridor, as well as from Seattle and Los Angeles on the Coast Starlight. Services to San Jose from the east coast travel via Sacramento. Additionally, the Caltrain commuter rail service travels between San Francisco and Gilroy via San Jose, with a journey time of about 80 minutes. San Jose boasts a 21-mile / 34- km light-rail system and travel by light-rail is very reasonably priced. Concessions are available for seniors and children, and San Jose's light-rail travel network operates as far as Paramount's Great America in the north, stopping at various attractions and interesting suburbs on the way.
